Scenic drives
Carcross
(Klondike Highway, 65 miles)
Rich with gold rush history, splendid scenery and indigenous traditions, (the intricate totem poles are a must-see!) you also won’t want to miss Carcross Desert. At only one square mile, the “smallest desert in the world” was formed thousands of years ago by retreating glaciers.
Emerald Lake
(Klondike Highway, 73 miles)
A gem of the Yukon, Emerald Lake is named for the brilliant color scheme produced by sunlight reflecting off deposits of calcium carbonate on the lake bottom. It’s been said that Emerald Lake is where the Northern Lights go to sleep during the day.
Miles Canyon
(Klondike Highway, 105 miles)
No doubt the most popular scenic destination in the Whitehorse area, take a walk across the 85-foot suspension bridge that spans the Yukon River and you’ll understand why.
