I just accidentally posted to birdeye.com instead of Google, so wanted to cross-post here as well. Sorry for the duplication.Like so many other reviews, ours was also the best experience I could've hoped for. I think we got really, really lucky with our rental because I booked with less than a week before our cruise. I had already booked a car with **** (the guys across the street) but after multiple phone calls going unanswered, and some dubious reviews, I changed plans literally at the last minute. So glad that I did! Not only was the Rav4 that we got awesome to drive (we own a Toyota ourselves, felt right at home) but the rental and return experience was so easy. The night before Nils texted a picture of the Rav4, and on a Sunday morning at 8am when we arrived at the gas station, it was indeed there and ready to go. After a brief visit inside to get the keys and load up with some road snacks. We ended up driving all the way up to Whitehorse that day (which for the record, is farther than their mileage allotment but we wanted to go that far), visited nearly all of the stops, and returned with time to spare, around 4:15pm. They gassed it up, confirmed the miles, and promised the quick return of our deposit, which true to word was done promptly, long before the cruise was over. One of the best parts of the day was getting into the Rav4 and driving away in less than 10 minutes, leaving behind some annoyed glares from the dozen or so people across the street lined up in front of the **** rental shack. We probably saved 30 minutes not having to wait with them. Priceless!I highly recommend renting a car in Skagway! Yes it's expensive, but less than a day of excursions for two or more, and you get to make your day your own. I thought the highway would be full of tour buses but we really had the road to ourselves. And, for those wondering, the entry into Canada and then returning back to the US was a breeze both ways. Both stops were maybe 5 minutes tops, if that.Again bottom line, this was by far my best car rental experience ever, and so very glad we booked with Affordable and not **** across the street!

I was honestly a little nervous about renting a car in Skagway - not because of the rental company, but just the idea of driving over the border and worrying about potential car trouble. All my worries disappeared the minute we picked up our car! One of the owners immediately put me at ease, saying “You’ll be fine, this is a brand new car.” He even showed me where the spare tire was located, just in case, but reassured me we’d have no problems. We paid the full price upfront when we booked, which made me a little nervous too. However, the owner emailed us within 12 hours to confirm everything was set and said they’d be in touch closer to our rental date. It was a bit pricey for one day, but nowhere near as expensive as doing all the same activities through cruise ship excursions. The car was ready right when we arrived. I had reserved it about seven months in advance (not sure if that was necessary, but they were sold out, so maybe it was!).This turned out to be one of the best decisions I made! For four of us, we were able to drive up into the Yukon and see the Suspension Bridge, the tiny desert, Carcross, Emerald Lake, do a mini hike, visit the Klondike Gold Rush Museum, and hit the Skagway viewpoint - all with about four hours to spare!Sure, we didn’t get to ride the train, but we got to see it, which was pretty cool too! All in all, this was an amazing decision. Thank you, Affordable Car Rental!

We had a fantastic experience renting a car to drive from Skagway to Emerald Lake in the Yukon! From the moment we arrived, Nils from Affordable Car Rental in Skagway made everything so easy and welcoming. He was incredibly kind and had us on our way in no time, which set the tone for an stress-free and memorable day. What really made this rental stand out was the thoughtful touch of a guidebook filled with notes on must-see stops along the way — full of local history, scenic viewpoints, and hidden gems. It turned a beautiful drive into a true adventure.Nils also packed us a cooler with lunch, — perfect for a day of exploring in the wilderness without having to worry about where to stop and eat. Thanks to Nils and the team, we had a smooth, enjoyable, and unforgettable trip through one of the most stunning routes we've ever driven. Highly recommend this rental service to anyone looking to explore the area with ease and local insight!

It was an incredible day with Skagway Affordable Car Rental! We had a very long port stop with our cruise line so we drove to Whitehorse and did a small portion of the Miles Canyon hike. Stopped at Emerald lake and Carcross desert and town. What an amazing and beautiful drive. So glad we weren’t stuck on a train.

Absolutely, unquestionably, the best part of our Alaskan cruise experience. We rented a car here to drive away from the port and crowds, and to see some Alaskan wilderness. We had great communication with them from the beginning, so everything was clearly explained and super easy. Their store has coffee, and snacks for your road trip, but they'll have a picnic lunch ready for you if you reserve it in advance. They gave us "Nils's bible," which was a personalized binder with all the notable sites and history of the road, by mile marker, even into Canada. Such a wonderfully informative and thoughtful touch that really made our trip so much more interesting and gave us a nice history of the area. I just can't speak highly enough about them and the personal service they provide.

Highly recommend, short walk from the pier. We enjoyed the mile by mile guide to the Klondike highway that was provided.

Great rental experience. Rented a RAV4 Hybrid to drive up to Emerald Lake. Car was very clean & a great ride! We'd had to cancel the previous week with back issues but are so happy we were able to do this trip the following week. The staff was great & our deposit was refunded within an hour of returning the car. I will not hesitate to rent from them again in the future!

Had one of the best days of my entire life on my stop in Skagway, and Affordable Car Rentals made the day so easy. The car was ready right at 7am as promised, and the car was in really good shape. The customer service was impeccable as they had a guidebook for us to follow and answered any questions we have. The Yukon is the most beautiful place I have ever been. I would 100% recommend!

Renting from Nils and team was seamless and stress free. My car was ready for me immediately upon arriving at the shop (new Toyota RAV 4 with 1,000 miles on it). The car was clean and ran great. Nils refunded my $100 deposit the same evening. Renting a car is definitely the way to see the Klondike highway and Skagway and I would highly recommend renting from Nils!

We had a car rented through Affordable Car Rental in Skagway and our cruise suffered mechanical issues and never left the port. I was able to call and cancel this car rental with absolutely no problems. They were wonderful to deal with and the refund came straight away. We will definitely use them on our return trip to Alaska!

Great company! Nils emailed me and texted twice to keep me posted. Great communication. We got a Nissan Altima in excellent condition. The car was right where he said it would be. You even have the option of having a cooler with lunch in it if you like for an additional few bucks(we didn't). We loved having our own agenda instead of the crowded buses and train. This is a great alternative from what the cruise ship offers and would highly recommend. Oh, and Nils emailed me later in the day to say our $100 deposit had already been refunded. Excellent service!!!

Visiting Skagway on a cruise and decided to drive up to Emerald Lake. Affordable Car Rentals was easy to work with, very affordable. Chose to have the car parked at the pier, and super easy to find. Requested a certain SUV and were happy to see it waiting for us. We were in and out of Skagway, with a quick stop at Glacial Coffee, before most were even off the ship. SUV ran great. Easy drop off at the end of the day. Only thing to be aware of is the local gas stations do close early. We found one 1 open at the end of the day with only 2 pumps, so plan some extra time, as all the jeep rentals were there too. Great service and great communication! The refundable deposit was applied to our account before we were even off our cruise. Will rent from again!

Rented a car from these guys on 8/3/22. It was probably the best car rental experience I've ever had. I made a reservation about a month in advance and when I arrived, they were so nice and laid back. Car was waiting for me with my name on it upon our arrival. By far the best priced car rental in Skagway.
